A global event in Burgundy this Saturday!
La Maison Jean-Claude Boisset hosts the World Winetasting Championship

On Saturday 14 October, the 2017 edition of the World Winetasting Championship will take place in Burgundy at La Maison Jean-Claude Boisset in Nuits-Saint-Georges, in partnership with the wine magazine Le Revue du Vin de France.

This year, the world’s best palates will go head-to-head in Burgundy for the contest’s fifth edition, held under the aegis of La Revue du Vin de France. La Maison Jean-Claude Boisset will play host to 24 teams from as many countries around the globe, comprising some of the best tasters in the world of wine. Among these are four newcomers: Brazil, Denmark, Zimbabwe, and the Netherlands. On Saturday morning, they will taste 12 mystery bottles blind during a challenging tasting session. The teams of four led by a coach must try to identify the varietal, the country, the appellation, the producer, and the vintage.

The event attracts international coverage, including this year an Australian film crew who are making a theatrical movie about it.

By midday, we will know the names of the successors to the 2016 world champions, the Chinese quartet who emerged as unexpected winners. The competition represents a huge challenge for all competitors, including the French team, who were second last year. The various tasting teams are selected to represent their country at this global tasting event, and have trained for months to pass all the stages of national selection.

Nonetheless, they will face off in a convivial spirit, and the Jean-Claude Boisset wine house, represented by Nathalie Boisset, will present a gift to each participant in the magnificent setting of the Château de Gilly as a souvenir of this unique event in Burgundy. A buffet of local fare will be served after the competition, where candidates will be able to mingle.

The World Winetasting Championship is organized by Philippe de Cantenac.

La Maison Jean-Claude Boisset produces the equivalent of an estate covering 40 hectares, across some 30 Burgundy appellations, all orchestrated by house winemaker Grégory Patriat. The wine house is reputed for its flagship wines such as Nuits-Saint-Georges, its exclusive grand cru Clos de La Roche, and some unusual gems like its great white wines grown on terroir known for red wines, original cuvées such as Bourgogne Aligoté, and wines made without sulfur. The opening of the new eco-winery in Nuits-Saint-Georges, Les Ursulines, is scheduled for the 2018 harvests.

All the participants are invited at la Maison this weekend in order to taste Jean-claude Boisset wines.
